Holiday Study: Doing it Right
Holidays – the most wonderful time of the year! It’s the time of sleeping in, hanging out with our friends and watching movies from the comfort of our bed, right? Well…sort of right.
There are, unfortunately, quite a few of us who face the shocking reality of schoolwork DURING the holidays. The horror.
While studying in the holidays may seem like an oxymoron, there are a few things that you can do to get the most out of your break AND reach any study deadlines before school goes back.
For some of our younger students, our first tip may seem completely obvious, but for any older students who feel tempted to study all day, every day of their break – DON’T. Holidays are about taking some time away from the busy school routine to relax and recharge, and studying 24/7 will just leave you feeling burnt out and overwhelmed.
It is definitely possible to enjoy your holidays AND study. Creating an organised plan will help you achieve both and allow you to return to school feeling refreshed!
When it comes to creating this study plan, it will help you if have a good understanding of when you are most productive during the day. For any early birds, morning study may work best for you. Night owls, on the other hand, may prefer (you guessed it), studying in the evening! It doesn’t really matter what time it is, as long as it works for you.
Another tip for productive holiday study is to complete some practice exams. Taking the knowledge from your written notes and applying them to an exam will really help you in the long run.
To get the most out of any practice exams, you will want to fully replicate the exam conditions. Find a nice, quiet room, set a timer and complete the exam in the time allowed, just like you would in school. This will help you become more familiar with the full exam process, meaning less stress on exam day.
School work during the holidays is an unfortunate reality. Staying organised, knowing what time of day works best for you and pairing your written notes with exam practice will set you on the right path and help you get the most out of your break!
